How Will You Handle Your “Wait?”

As we enter into the summer months, one of the most popular subjects is “weight.” Many are searching, preparing, and working towards an optimistic goal of losing pounds and inches. However, I am compelled to address a more pertinent matter, regarding how we deal with our “wait” when we petition our Savior; even though we know that He has already promised to give us an expected end (ref. Jeremiah 29:11). The promise of a future and hope, but there seems to be a delay -- what should/could we do -- as we “wait,” because we know that delay does not imply denial!

I am sure that we all have experienced waiting periods for God’s deliverance and blessings. As I reflect back on past experiences, I realize that as I waited, my actions, attitude, faith, etc., contributed to my outcome. Therefore, it is my belief that what we do while we are waiting on our petitions to be answered is a replicate of our relationship and trust in God.

During the “wait” is a favorable time to continue worshiping and praising our Lord! It is not the time to depict a sad face, a bad attitude, or to go AWOL (Absent Without Leave). Fellowship continues, life goes on, and ‘yes’ God is moving and creating on your behalf…but you are out of position. How will you handle your “wait?” Continue to celebrate and show forth the praises of God, for He is Worthy! We must maintain a spirit of humbleness and obedience, honor God with our tithes and offerings, be watchful, fast and pray, and “wait” patiently having the confidence that God hears and will answer our prayers. We have to be like Job when he stated, “All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come (Job 14:14).”

We cannot be like the children of Israel when they decided to make gods for themselves, because they no longer wanted to “wait” for Moses’ return from Mount Sinai (ref. Exodus 32:1). We have to wait on the Lord, and while we wait we must maintain an encouraged and positive spirit, while preparing and working towards our expected end. Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Be faithful while you “wait,” for God will let none that wait on Him be ashamed (ref. Psalm 25:3). How will you handle your “wait?”

My maiden name is “Waite” so this blog caught my attention right away. Even though I loved the sound of my name I hated everything it represented. I use to pride myself on getting whatever I wanted now rather than waiting. The outcome for this hasty mentality never proved successful in the long run, but for the moment, at the point of my desire, I thought it was a good thing to gratify my needs instantaneously. It didn’t help my outlook on life to marry into the name Walker because then I thought this was predestined to reflect my wait-free attitude. I would haughtily state as a pun intended that I was always “Waiting to become a Walker.” As you probably guessed by now my marriage didn’t work out because walking become too slow for me and I had to move one. It wasn’t until the untimely death of my father three years ago that I realized the beauty of waiting. Some days as I reminisce his passing I would hear him say, “You need to slow down, Olive, you need to wait!”!Oh how I wished he could have waid to see my new house, my new truck, my artwork, my….. But he’s gone now and I am forced to wait to see him again. Since then I’ve slowed downdlearned to wait. My whole outlook on life has changed and I’m still learning to embrace the beauty of “Waiting.”

I would like to thank the writer of this article, Ms. Lindsey, for reminding us so eloquently of the need to wait. Living in the computer age where everything is right at one’s finger tip does not help our drive for instant gratification but we all can learn a life lesson that the most important things we acquire or are protected from come through waiting. For example, waiting for the right partner in life rather than picking the first person that comes by, abstaining and waiting for marriage, starting out small in the business world and waiting for promotion or financial return, waiting in traffic rather than displaying road rage, last but not least, waiting for the Lord to supply ALL our needs according to what He sees fit for our good. I will end this blog with an old adage that we should all adapt, “Learn to labor and the wait.”
