Since its opening three years ago, the Lincoln Room museum regularly hosts class and family reunions in addition to other groups. The history of the ‘original’ Lincoln High School is being honored and preserved at the Lincoln Room museum.
Last summer, the Lincoln High Class of 1967 kicked off its 40th reunion activities with a visit and presentation to the museum. The class presented a Lincoln High PTA scrapbook to the Lincoln Room Foundation Board. It had been in safekeeping with class president Marvin Henderson for a number of years. The scrapbook has notes, programs, meeting minutes and photographs for the period of 1963 –1966.
Another recent gift came to the museum as a result of the passing of former teacher Willie B. Estaras. Her Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sisters donated eight (8) Lincoln High School yearbooks to the museum. These yearbooks are like new and have been placed in a secured display case. The duplicate yearbooks are now on display to be viewed by visitors.
Donations to the museum are always welcomed. Photos and other paper items such as certificates and awards can be scanned so that the donor may keep their originals.
The Lincoln Room Foundation Board will host a series of events this year beginning in August. A reception will be held at the Lincoln Neighborhood Center on August 30th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to honor past and present inductees into the FAMU Athletic Hall of Fame.
The museum is operated and managed by the Lincoln Room Foundation Board of Directors and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
